P2 split series vs. cheeseeaters
_POSTEDON Jun 20, 2010 - 08:45 AM by Superanders
Darren the Bold The Cheese Eaters came to Oslo to play P2 in a double header on a fine Saturday in June.
Being farmers, the Cheese Eaters are used to getting up early, not necessarily the case for P2's urban crowd.

In the first inning of game 1, Osterøy swung the bats well, and scored 9 runs before P2 woke up and got the 3rd out. P2, however, got their act together and instantly started chipping away at the lead, scoring 2 runs in the bottom half. Then they blanked the opposition in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th inning while scoring 3 in the 2nd, 4 in the 3rd (tying the game). The whole line-up contributed well.

The highlight of the second inning was Pierre's inside-the-park home run, placing the ball to right centerfield. P2’s best offensive inning came in the 4th where they batted around and scored 5 taking a 14 to 9 lead.

In the 5th Osterøy scored 2 runs and held P2, reducing the lead to 3 runs. When Osterøy then scored 4 in the 6th and P2 only were able to put one across the plate, the stage was set for a nail-biting 7th inning.

Superanders decided that this is a burden too heavy to put on his teammates, so he retired the side. First a pop-up to deep ss, then he showed his range by grabbing a ball that one-hopped by the pitcher, Kaz, delivering a perfect throw to Matt on first. The last out was a hard hit line drive that he grabbed with a little help from the teeth on the edge of his glove. Andy Johnson, the national team coach, who attended the game, said that he had not seen anyone in Norway jump that high before.

Then the excellent line-up executed the game plan perfectly. After getting two outs, it was time for Earl the Pearl to shine. He drove a double to centerfield. Then Kaz hit a line-drive up the middle, scoring Earl, ending the game. (Author's note: the last two paragraphs might have been a little self-indulging, but that is the price you have to pay for not writing articles yourself;) ) (Editor's note: you would not believe the number of corrections that had to be made to the Author's submission, but that's the price to pay for having high standards)

Notable stats:
John Olav: 4-5 2 2b
Erlend: 2-4, 2 2b, 3R
Pierre: 3-5, HR
Matt: 2-3

P2 2 3 4 5 0 1 1 16

Game 2

The Attack of the Cheese Eaters.

Being fully awake, P2 was better prepared to play the second game. Due to some other commitments, John Olav and Erlend had to leave, and Rune's playing time was limited to 3 innings.

To replece them we had big names like Bror, Nikolai and Ty. Rune started Pitching and did a fine job the first two innings, even though he had to battle with a somewhat erratic strike zone. Osterøy scored 3 in the first inning, but once again found themselves behind as P2 scored 5. Nicolai really delivered with the bases loaded hitting a triple – 3 rbis.

The second inning was scoreless for both teams.

In the 3rd, Rune really had a battle with the umpire and gave up 8 runs - it must be said that there also were a couple of errors, but I do not have access to P2's defensive stats and cannot report these correctly. P2 only got one run back in the 3rd, when Pierre walked, and then stole all 3 bases, including home on the following 3 pitches.

In the 4th Anders took over the mound and delivered one of his best performances in the cardinal jersey - 3 runs over 4 innings. Unfortunately P2 was not able to bat like they did in the first game, and were never able to catch up with the Cheese Eaters.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 tot
Osterøy 3 0 8 1 0 0 2 14
P2 5 0 1 0 0 2 1 9
