Pretenders win both games vs Aviators

Rommen, Oslo, September 14th 2024

By Terje

With another two must-win-games - this time vs the Sola Aviators - the Pretenders showed no mercy and dominated from the first pitch of the games. With only one game left of the season, the Pretenders are eyeing the last playoff-spot in the East Division.

The Pretenders have showed a completely different side after the Summer-break and are now 6-1 in their last 7 games - making a real run for the last playoff-spot.

Game 1 (33-5):

Enrico Guerrini started on the mound for the Pretenders and pitched great in the first 4 innings. He shut down the first 11 batters he faced before allowing the first baserunner on a walk. Due to long innings when the Pretenders were at bat, the 5th inning gave our starter some problems as he finally gave up a hit. But with only 1 hit and 1 earned run of the game, Guerruni finished the game on top with 7 Ks.

At the plate, the Pretenders started off right from the get-go and scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning on RBI-single by Ryan Goedecke and a sac-fly by Marlon Ortiz Moré. In the 2nd inning the Pretenders overpowered the Aviators with 13 runs on 2-RBI-single by Terje Hoaas, Sac-fly by Kamil Hanak, RBI-singles by Enrico Guerrini and Marlon Ortiz Moré, 2-RBI-double by Luis Frias and RBI-double by Kyle Robertson.

From the 3rd inning, the Pretenders switch over to cruise-control and score another 17 runs over the next two innings on RBI-singles by Ryan Goedecke, Kamil Hanak, Kyle Robertson, Max Krafft, Luis Frias and Luca Torti. The biggest hit of the day - and in the season so far - came on Marlon Ortiz Moré's grand slam in the bottom of the 3rd inning.

The game ended comfortable at 33-5 to make it our biggest win of the season.

Game 2 (8-1):

As Trondheim Hellhounds won their first game of the day vs the Suns, the Pretenders knew they had to keep pushing to fight for the playoff-spot. But now they were facing the Aviators Ace - Matt Ferris - in the 2nd game of the day who has given the Pretenders a lot of problems in the past.  But the Pretenders kept their focus on their job - grind out one run at the time - and ended up scoring at least a run per inning in the game.

Marlon Ortiz Moré started the show with a 2-RBI-single over the short stop in the bottom of the first inning. In the following innings they kept creating chances and scored on RBI-fielder's choice by Terje Hoaas, two wild pitches, RBI-single by Kamile Hanak, Terje Hoaas and RBI-double by Luis Frias.

On the mound Ty Tollestrup pitched his 3rd complete-game-win in a row - allowing only 3 hits and one earned run on season-high 14 strikeouts.

On defense we made several spectacular plays: Raul Bonilla made a diving catch in left field, Kamil Hanak made two great diving plays/catches at 3rd and Ryan Goedecke made a great running-catch in deep right-center.

With only one game left of the season vs VIF on Sunday the 22nd at Rommen, the Pretenders are in control of the last playoff-spot but nothing is set in stone yet and we won't know for sure until the last pitch has been thrown.

Best of the best:

  • Marlon Ortiz Moré: 5-6 with a HR and 9 RBIs

  • Luis Frias: 6-9 with 3 doubles and 4 RBIs

  • Ty Tollestrup: 7 IP with 1 ER and 14 Ks
